Drake used to call us on his cellphone, but now what? Well, every few years, he lets us know he hasn’t forgotten about us and books a stadium show in Dallas. Just thank the high heavens that this time, with his Summer Sixteen Tour hitting town in July, Drake will be playing American Airlines Center and not Gexa Energy Pavilion. Because good lord, that place in the summer time.
The last time Drake came to Dallas for a solo headlining gig, it was also at American Airlines Center, but a lot has changed since then. In fact, when that show happened the Canadian rapper was in the midst of a feud with Future about…uh, well… No one really cares now, because the pair have patched things up, put out a killer mixtape and are now even going on tour together. (Dallas is well acquainted with Future these days, btw.) What a time to be alive, indeed.
Perhaps that will give Meek Mill reason to hope, but let’s not get carried away just yet. (Drake did play at Gexa since the AAC show, but that was a co-headlining slot with Lil Wayne.)
Speaking of reason to hope, you can’t help but wonder whether the Queen herself, Ms. Erykah Badu, will make an appearance at this show. Her remix of Drake’s smash hit “Hotline Bling” was so good that it spawned an entire mixtape last year. But even if that dream scenario doesn’t play out, there’s always jumpman, jumpman, jumpman.
