Tonight marks the start of Dallas’ third annual sneakerhead indulgence weekend, as sneaker and streetwear expo Kixpo kicks off its 2009 rendition with an official pre-party concert at The Lounge on Elm Street, with performances from Jabee and Playdough, and DJ sets fron A-One and Sober.

But that’s just the beginning, wouldn’t you know: Tomorrow, the real deal gets going at Life in Deep Ellum all day long with shoes and clothes on display and for purchase. There’s also an after-party at The Lounge again on Saturday night, this one again featuring A-One, but also DC9 faves DJ Fishr Pryce and rapper Ty City. And, on Sunday, there’s even a 4-on-4 basketball tournament at Reverchon Park.

Regardless of all that, though, we’re leaving out probably the most exciting part of the weekend, a tradition started at last year’s event: the annual Kixpo mixtape. This year’s tape, which is again available as a free download (go here to download your copy), is mixed by A-One, and hosted by the man who also helmed last year’s tape, Picnictyme. And on the mix? Some great new tracks from Dallas emcees Playdough, Ty City, Dustin Cavazos, J. Rhodes and Picnictyme’s long-in-the-works collaboration with Astronautalis, Max Moon.

Anyway, it’s well worth the price of the download. And then some. Get it.
