Last night, at a listening party for his band’s upcoming The Courage of Others disc in Denton, Midlake‘s Eric Pulido
announced to a crowd of about 50 people that Midlake would be playing the North by 35 conferette. No news there necessarily–except that four sources who were there say Pulido followed up that nugget with a much bigger one, announcing that his band would be performing at the NX35 festival along with The Flaming Lips, thus ending weeks of speculation and confirming early rumors on that very subject.
Essentially, Pulido claimed, his retro-folk outfit would be sharing an outdoor stage with The Flaming Lips. Which, of course, is huge news (and even that may be an understatement) for the fledgling festival as it heads into its second year.
We’re still waiting to hear back from Flaming Lips’ representatives over at William Morris. (It’s kinda hard to get a confirmation of this sort after midnight, go figure.) But all signs point to a go. Official confirmation from NX35 is expected early Friday morning.
