After Mike Hamilton and Alan Uhler moved to Dallas from Michigan in 2009, it took the pair little time to hook up with James Alvarez and form Gray, the New Black. The band has been busy playing around the area and recording songs for its debut full-length that will be released later this year.
Hamilton was kind enough to send over one of the aforementioned cuts, “I Don’t Wanna Be With You,” as a sample for the readers of DC9. Check it out after the jump.

Although Hamilton describes the trio’s music as a mix of Wilco and The Mars Volta, the vibe I get from “I Don’t Wanna Be With You” is pure indie-pop, very much in the vein of Yo La Tengo’s milder moments.
The band played at The Cavern on Wednesday and appeared last night at
Opening Bell Coffee. Anyone wanting to get into a promising local band at ground
level should look into these guys, for sure.
