Bobgoblin was a concept band: four guys in dark flight suits assigned numbers and pseudonyms, calling themselves the “leaders of Black Market Party revolution rock” and singing about “Standing Up (To the Voice of America).” The shtick that this was not just a musical band but also a band of elite anti-government operatives never scared fans away from the smart, political, keyboard-driven punky New Wave. In fact, the concept got old for the quartet before it did for the fans, and they changed their name to The Commercials (and later The Adventures of Jet) in order to play songs outside the Black Market Party. Occasionally, they dust off the suits and play for a night. Viva la revolution.
