In April 2004, the minds behind Lakewood’s Times Ten Cellars set aside land outside of Alpine, Texas, for Cathedral Vineyard, where they planted their first grapevines.
Chosen for its hot sun, cool nights and mineral-rich soil, Cathedral Vineyard has been tended to ever since, cultivated toward wines inspired by the Spanish and European Alpine Rhone regions. They planted some 7,000 vines back in 2004, and tonight–almost five years later–Times Ten Cellars hosts a celebratory release party for its first vintage: the powerful, savory 2007 Cathedral Mountain Vineyard Vino de Tierra Alta Texas Red Wine, made with Tempranillo (a type of black grape), Grenache (a commonly used red wine grape), Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
Stop by Times Ten Cellars, 6324 Prospect Ave., between 5 and 10 p.m. tonight for a complimentary sample of the wine and a selection of Time Ten’s Spanish tapas. The Cathedral Mountain Vineyard wine is also available by the bottle and glass in Times Ten’s tasting room, and in bottles to take home.
