Each week City of Ate will give you the lowdown on a local happy hour
in Quittin’ Time, with the details and why you should or shouldn’t take
up the featured bar or restaurant on its drink specials.
Where: Uptown Pub, 3605 McKinney Ave., 214-522-5100
When: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday
What: $2 Lone Star drafts, $2.75 domestics, $3 specialty shots and margaritas
Why: Creaky, uneven floors that feel like they’re about one more spilled beer away from being structurally unsound. Cozy booths with shutters that keep you from showing off the bottle you just splurged on — which probably wasn’t that boastworthy to begin with. Scarred, worn tables and booths. And this place is in Uptown?

Yes, thankfully, Uptown Pub is a throwback in its yuppie-fied neighborhood. It offers an oasis from the West Village’s native starched and Axe Body Sprayed stuffed suits. But if you can’t help checking out their arm candy, Uptown Pub’s patio offers a great vantage.
The booths are nice if you want to have a private conversation, but there’s usually a very friendly, pretension-free vibe at the bar and nearby high tables if you’re feeling more convivial or want to watch a Rangers game. The food ensures you won’t be tempted to add the “gastro” prefix to the name, but it’s not bad at all for humble bar food.
Drink specials during happy hour make the place all the more inviting. In fact, Lone Star drafts are only available during happy hour. After 7 p.m., beers start at $3.75 and wells at $4 — still not bad, especially for the area.
