When Aurora announced its closing early last month, owners Celeste and Avner Samuel hinted that they were in the process of searching for a location for a brand new concept. Looks like their search is over, and that they won’t be moving, after all. While Aurora’s days are behind it, the Samuels will be opening their new restaurant, Nosh, in the same Oaklawn Avenue location.
Nosh, a European bistro and bar concept, will be less extravagant than that of its predecessor. As acclaimed as Aurora was, the current economic environment had taken its toll on the fine-dining restaurant. With the writing on the wall, the Samuels had for some time committed themselves to the idea of offering a more affordable dining experience.
A recent press-release for the restaurant emphasized Nosh’s, “relaxed and comfortable atmosphere,” and its “moderately priced food and wine list.” In a far departure from Aurora, Nosh will be offering a daily happy hour menu. The restaurant will be expanded in order to include a full-service bar and additional seating areas. Amidst all the changes, there will be an old stand-by making it into the new restaurant. Aurora’s striking open kitchen will not only remain, but will feature a new food bar with seating.
The European/Mediterranean inspired restaurant is tentatively planned to open in mid-September.
