If you follow burger culture at all, you’re probably aware that The Grape in Lowest Greenville has a noteworthy version. Texas Monthly anointed the burger the best in Texas, and customers have caught on. During brunch last week almost every plate I saw come out of the kitchen was graced with a warm bun and a huge hunk of beef.
I’ll agree the burger is fantastic, but there are things on the menu that deserve some attention too. Like the shredded oxtail and banana pepper hash. Let’s put aside that this isn’t the most summery of dishes and we’re in the middle of August (that burger’s not light either). Focus instead on loads of tender oxtail in a sweet reduction, runny poached eggs, soft potatoes and briny peppers. I cleaned my plate, and did my best to ignore my table-mates gorging on perfectly cooked and massive burgers. You should follow suit.
