The same group that owns Sfuzzi and The Standard Pour, La Reve Consultants, is opening a new concept called Pozo Mercado at 2908 McKinney Ave. This new restaurant and bar, which is right next door to The Standard Pour, will have a tequila focus. For that, we applaud them.

Brian McCullough, who runs the bar program at The Standard Pour, has pulled together the spirits for this spot too. We talked a bit about how one sorts through the hundreds of tequilas on the market. Surely he hasn’t tried them all. “I’ve tried quite a few,” McCullough said with a bit of a laugh.

“We’ll have more than 100 tequilas, not too many cocktails, like only six to eight, a few frozen drinks, tequilas on tap and one infusion,” McCullough said.

Pozo, which means “watering hole,” will have a full menu in addition to their drinks. McCullough said both the food menu and bar have Texas and Mexican influences.
