Local donut pioneer, Hypnotic Donuts, is hosting an inaugural “Beat the Heat – World’s Spiciest Donut” eating contest, Saturday, August 25 at 1:00 p.m. at their store at 9007 Garland Road. Mocking the oppressive summer heat, this “progressive” contest starts with a regular donut then, as each is eaten, the flavors get hotter. Contestants have 10 minutes to eat as many donuts as they can.

The scouting report goes like this: The Mexico is a glazed donut with vanilla frosting, fresh jalapeños and Tabasco. The Hellfire is all that plus habanera and Serrano peppers (seeds intact, my good friend). The Devil’s Death Dance one-ups all that with ghost pepper frosting.

The World’s Spiciest Donut Champ will receive one free Mexico donut a week until the end of the year, a trophy, and the honorable distinction of being the inaugural winner. The latter being the most important because Mom can include it in her holiday newsletter.

(One question: Why not “Galaxy’s Spiciest Donut Champ?” Honestly, it’s highly unlikely that could be disproven.)

$30,000

Previously, our girl Witney Filloon tussled with a Hellfire and lived to tell about it. Barely.

There’s a video of an insurance agent eating the triple D. He’s wearing plastic gloves (good idea) to shovel it in his face as he appears to be in a near panic. It takes him an oddly long time. He appears to come out OK in the end. Bad choice of words. Rather, after he ate the donut, he sat there like he was fine. Sort of. But, watching the video is difficult, unless you enjoy laughing at other people’s pain.

The entry fee is $10. To register email info@hypnoticdonuts.com or sign up at the store. The contest will take place Saturday, August 25 at 1 p.m. at Hypnotic Donuts at 9007 Garland Road.
