As we reported in June, this year’s Chefs Under Fire has gone regional. Each region’s applicants have been listed on the region’s page (see the Dallas/Fort Worth page here). The public can now vote for the chefs they’d like to see compete at the regionals. The Dallas/Fort Worth applicants include chefs from such varied establishments as Kids ‘R’ Kids in Allen (Adam Schloemer) and Abacus (Tim Woehr). The top five chefs will be invited to duke it out at the D/FW bout on Sunday, September 12 at the Milestone Culinary Arts Center.

Scroll down the contest’s page to see cheesy Q&As with the candidates, where they give illuminating answers to questions like “If stranded on a deserted island, what single kitchen utensil would you most like to have with you and why?” Tokyo Café Chef de Cuisine Kevin Martinez gave the most practical response, twine. It can be used to build shelter, weapons, clothes, fishing nets. The most predictable response belongs to Juan Rodriguez, executive chef at Reata, who said he’d take a chef’s knife. Unfortunately, he wasn’t the only one.

Voters have until 11:59 p.m. August 30. The regional finalists will be announced September 2.
