Gubbins over at Pegasus got all the sparkly details on a new a Alamo Drafthouse that the city of Richardson’s Planning Commission just approved. This Austin-based import will be the first in the Dallas area and will reside in an old Pep Boys in the Richardson Heights Shopping Center.
The Alamo Drafthouse is dinner, a movie and a bar all packed into one party. In addition to first runs, they also show cult classics and simply badass movies that never get old. Think Better off Dead, The Three Amigos and The Big Lebowski. They also do some tweet-up and favorite line parties.
The new Alamo Drafthouse will have 740 seats backed up with a full kitchen and 40 beers on tap. I asked how many theaters said 740 seats will be in, but that information isn’t available now. We’ll update if we get word. (Update: 7 screens)
Word of warning from their website:
When news happens, Dallas Observer is there —
Your support strengthens our coverage.
We’re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to you. If the Dallas Observer matters to you, please take action and contribute today, so when news happens, our reporters can be there.
We have zero tolerance for talking or cell phone use of any kind during movies, and we aren’t afraid to kick anyone rude enough to start texting their friends during a show right out of the theater.
Snap! But don’t take it the wrong way. This place is unlike any other movie-going experience.
Construction will begin as soon as the Richardson city council gives it the ol’ wink and nod.
