Where there’s smoke, there’s a second Smoke. Christopher Zielke, Christopher Jeffers and Tim Byres, the guys behind Oak Cliff’s popular Smoke, have announced that they’ve signed a lease on a space in Plano and hope to be open by the year’s end.
In addition to the original Smoke, the trio is responsible for Bar Belmont, Chicken Scratch and The Foundry. Most recently they took over Outpost, a small bar in restaurant on Beckley Avenue, rounding out a family of restaurants that are located entirely in Oak Cliff.
While the team says they remain committed to their ‘hood, Plano residents are surely excited that Smoke is coming to the Preston Towne Crossing development. Chef Tim Byres is one of them — he lives just three miles from the new restaurant.
“I’m excited to bring my passion so close to home,” he said in a news release. Loose translation: I am about to save sooo much gas money.

The menu at the Plano location will mirror what’s served at Smoke in Oak Cliff, and while Byres plans update his original menu, he says he still plans to focus on scratch-cooking using vintage kitchen equipment. John Paul Valverde and Miguel Vicens have been charged with the design, which is expected to have an extensive patio.
Smoke Plano is expected to open in the late summer or fall.
