Leading up to September’s Best of Dallas® 2016 issue, we’re sharing (in no particular order) our 100 Favorite Dishes, the Dallas entrées, appetizers and desserts that really stuck with us this year.
It’s a proven fact: Lox is basically the world’s greatest breakfast. The smoky, rich salmon, the bite of capers and onion, cream cheese spread on a warm toasted bagel — a good lox spread combines all of the best parts of crunch, brine, creamy, smoky and rich. And a proper spread will even throw in a few veggies for good measure.
The Nova Lox ($12.95) at Cindi’s New York Deli is a sight to behold. A toasted, fresh-baked bagel — we suggest onion — is served alongside a heaping plate of cream cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, capers and smoked salmon. It’s like a build-your-own adventure with a guaranteed good ending.
Take it to the next level by trying a similar spread with smoked cod, baked salmon or smoked whitefish.
