Ran into some acquaintances Sunday afternoon and into the evening who were still without electricity following Thursday’s snowstorm; several of them packed up the kids and were forced to take refuge in Plano hotels, since Dallas was all booked-up for the All-Star festivities. Angela Hunt posted several items yesterday, back…

It’s been exactly two months since Unfair Park broke the news that the Dallas Independent School District had purchased the old Oak Cliff Christian Church on 10th Street with the intention of razing Charles Bulger’s nearly century-old structure to build tennis courts, most likely, for the new-and-improved Adamson High School…

Every now and then I check in on Hurst’s Jessica Peters to see how her Elliott Smith doc is coming. It would appear her film about the singer-songwriter, who lived here from the time he was 5 to 13, remains a work-in-progress. Fingers crossed she gets it done sooner than…

As the city digs out from under a record snowfall — and with the forecast calling for below-freezing temps and a freezing fog advisory — it’s hard not to think about the city’s homeless population as Dallas attempts to move ahead with its plans to establish 700 units of permanent…

Blanketed by a fresh coat of snow, the hole three hilltop at Stevens Park loomed like an Oak Cliff Matterhorn this morning, and for the lucky ones in the neighborhood with nowhere else to be, it was home to the sweetest sledding in town.A few kids got to show off…

The great George Gimarc sends word: “I was playing around with a new scanner and decided to test it on some old slides. Here’s some pix of the Statler Hilton under construction in September of ’54 and May of 1955. Thought you might enjoy.” Why, George, whatever gave you that…

Crawford, though, didn’t really speak in specifics…

From the looks of this sneak peek at a presentation Willis Winters, assistant director of Park and Rec, is giving the council’s Trinity River Corridor Project Committee on Tuesday, that $3 mil earmarked for the so-called Loop 12 Gateway will most likely wind up being spent on Trinity River Audubon…

Unfair Park may be a bit delayed this morning. Blame it on Oncor, which spent an hour last night trying to restore power at our NW Dallas outpost before, apparently, giving up. We’ve had juice maybe six hours on and off out of the last 24 and none at all…

I see here that on Tuesday, the city council’s Economic Development Committee has on its agenda a proposed downtown parking study. Since City Hall’s more or less closed between now and Tuesday (for, in order, a All-Star snow day, a furlough day and President’s Day), and since the briefing docs…

This weather update from Unfair Park HQ: Yes it’s still snowing. Walking through downtown this morning was like taking a stroll around Minneapolis: steaming, snow-caked trucks kicking up road slush and huddled smokers hiding under umbrellas and office building overhangs. In a Dallas kind of way, though, the sidewalks this morning…

It’s the Omni downtown, silly — you know, the convention center hotel? Justin took this two days ago. Fine, but where the construction cam? (Speaking of, why doesn’t the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge cam work anymore? It robs Schutze of one of his hobbies.)…
