Last year, I finally overcame my grudge against The Light Crust Doughboys for kicking Bob Wills out of the band in the 1930s simply because sometimes he drank a little too much and occasionally missed their gigs and live radio broadcasts as a result. It happened one day at a thrift store when I found one of the legendary Western swing band’s record albums in a dollar vinyl bin. I bought the album, took it home, listened to it and loved it. Formed in 1931, the Doughboys have easily claimed the title as the longest running success of all the Western swing bands to come out of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The Doughboys will perform “A Cowboy Christmas” 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Pocket Sandwich Theatre, 5400 E. Mockingbird Lane. Tickets are $18. For more info, visit pocketsandwich.com.
