Recently, some movie critic went on a tirade about the increasingly popular “movies under the stars” concept. It’s an idea that’s really been taking off in the past few years thanks to better audio/visual technology, and now many parks, museums and urban centers offer movie nights where you can spread out a blanket, kick back and enjoy a favorite film. But according to this critic, the concept is apparently harmful to the entire movie-going experience. Whatever. It’s no worse than pulling a Netflix out of the mailbox and trying to watch it between your kids fighting and the dogs barking at the mailman, or whatever daily crises go on at your house. I’m sure that the “movie under the stars” is not an environment where a couple could sit and pick out noir-esque thematic elements or anything, but I don’t think that’s really the point. The outdoor movie is about the shared experience of a sentimental favorite film in a space where you can spread out on a blanket, lie down and let it wash over you. And what better movie to wash over you than Old School? It’s brainless, it’s hilarious, it’s Will Ferrell…and it’s free at NYLO Plano at Legacy, 8201 Preston Road.
