There are a few city leaders I sure hope make it to this exhibition examining how new architecture in a city’s historic districts can allow area neighborhoods to evolve without endangering the crucial character that made the areas worth protecting to begin with. Ahem. Context/Contrast originally appeared at the New York Center for Architecture and explored three neighborhoods (Brooklyn Heights, the Upper East Side and SoHo) by illustrating the noticeably different building types, structures and landscapes that can define districts as “historic” and compel city leaders and citizens to consider how they should or should not be changed in the name of progress. For the exhibition’s stay at the Dallas Center for Architecture, 1909 Woodall Rodgers Freeway, Suite 100, which runs through September 2, Context/Contrast includes a segment on how Dallas deals with the similar situations.
