The Theater Fire‘s cinematic aura is more than just a dubious connection based on the band’s name; rather, the quartet’s dark, often picaresque tunes lend themselves to a visceral and visual substance and loping storytelling on par with anything celluloid has to offer. Fitting, then, that the songs from TTF’s newest album, Everybody Has a Dark Side, are the inspiration for the 16 short films that make up the Sound + Picture collective’s latest installment, Film Is Love. Each Theater Fire song was assigned to a team of S + P filmmakers (the group is a collective of DFW artists), who in turn created a corresponding short video piece, all of which will be shown 9 p.m. Friday as the Theater Fire plays live at the Lakewood Theater, 1825 Abrams Parkway. With the Theater Fire’s cerebral backwoods feel and S + P’s edgy consciousness, we think this evening could be like Tom Waits scoring a Matthew Barney film starring Arkansas hillbillies, but we’ll just have to wait and see. Admission is a $10 minimum donation (50 percent benefits an Israeli family, 50 percent benefits a Lebanese family). Call 214-821-SHOW.
