You don’t have to agree with his politics, but you gotta give it up for George H. W.’s post-presidency platforms, particularly his partnership with his son’s archrival, Bill Clinton, in the tsunami relief efforts. And closer to home, he and his wife Barbara have joined with Dallas’ Genesis Women’s Shelter to support the cause of caring for victims of domestic violence. On Saturday, the couple will be the keynote speakers at Genesis Women’s Shelter’s 13th Annual Mother’s Day Luncheon. The Genesis Mother’s Day Luncheon is a benefit to raise funds to help further the mission of the shelter—to “alleviate family violence through volunteerism, education and community awareness.” Genesis has been a local force in providing safety and shelter to battered women and their children since 1985. The shelter provides crisis intervention and crisis therapeutics with the ultimate goal of raising community awareness of domestic violence and reducing violence against women and children. The Bushes will speak on life after the White House and the importance of philanthropy in daily living. The Mother’s Day Luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the Landmark Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency Dallas.
