There is a hazy, oppressive boundary between awake and asleep that many of us struggle through each morning, whether it’s the groggy, pre-coffee sleepwalk or the stubborn fight between a person’s obligations and his under-rested body. This half-awake state is the subject of Houston-based Italian artist Nicola Parente’s series of paintings in Edge of Awakening, a new exhibit at the Gremillion & Co. Fine Art gallery. The exhibit showcases Parente’s expressive abstract paintings that transition between darkness and light, interrupted only by the boundaries of the canvas itself. The opening reception runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. The exhibit hangs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays through March 29. Call 713-522-2701 or visit gremillion.com.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: Feb. 25. Continues through March 19, 2011
