Some hardcore runners say they’ve become addicted to running, that they crave the endorphin rush that comes with kicking their own asses. But judging by the premise of The Original Mud Run, the addiction might be to personal punishment as well. These masochists get down and dirty while going the distance, navigating muddy military-style obstacle courses. Depending on the participant’s level of bad-ass, they can opt for a 5K course with 18-plus obstacles or a 10K course with more than 30 grueling obstacles. Both courses provide major mud pits to slosh through, some as deep as eight feet, leaving contestants covered head to toe by the end of this gritty gauntlet. The high-speed wallowing begins 9 a.m. at LaGrave Field, 301 N.E. 6th St. in Fort Worth. Admission begins at $60. Visit theoriginalmudrun.com for more information.
