More than a decade since his debut with the late Matchbox Twenty, Rob Thomas is still hitting the charts with his second solo album, Cradlesong, though he’s still probably best known for his collaboration with Carlos Santana for the 1999 single “Smooth,” as well as singing for Matchbox Twenty. After four albums and hits such as “Push,” “3 A.M.” and “If You’re Gone,” Thomas branched off from Matchbox Twenty and began creating music on a much more personal note. The first single off his latest album is considered perhaps his most personal number yet: “Her Diamonds” was written about Thomas’ wife and the couple’s struggle with her autoimmune disease on a daily basis.
