Most of what I write is sarcastic and generally lighthearted, but for this one I just couldn’t find it in me—Jewish or not, we all wince when we hear the horror stories of the Holocaust. Remember the acclaimed film, Life is Beautiful, in which a man turned a stay at a concentration camp into one big game for him and his son, teaching us that if life gives you lemons, go ahead and make lemonade? And Anne Frank? Imagine being confined to the top rooms of a cold warehouse for two years—as an adolescent, with seven other people. Living in a perpetual state of silence and fear but somehow finding that hope—even laughter—can still exist even in the darkest, most dismal of circumstances. Through February 5, the Creative Arts Theatre and School will present The Diary of Anne Frank. The Tony Award-winning drama portrays the daily existence, as chronicled by the teenage daughter, of a Jewish family forced to live in hiding from Nazi rule. Shows will run 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Fridays, 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $10. The Creative Arts Theatre and School is located at 1100 W. Randol Mill Road in Arlington. Call 817-861-2287 or visit www.creativearts.org.
Fridays, 10 a.m. & 12:30 p.m.; Saturdays, 2:30 & 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, 2:30 p.m. Starts: Jan. 27. Continues through Feb. 5
