We can’t possibly feign any sort of journalistic objectivism when it comes to the State Fair of Texas, that wonderful time of the year in Dallas when the weather doesn’t suck, the hipsters mingle happily with high school hoodlums in the Midway and everyone gives up gluten-free diets for pork chops on sticks and other fried wonderments. It’s a beautiful thing, the State Fair — for less than $50, you can have: enough Instagram photo opps to explode your Twitter feed; a dizzying array of simultaneously disgusting and delicious culinary creations; carnival rides that will test the limits of your Xanax prescription; full access to view a cornucopia of oh-no-she-didn’t fashions; the most bittersweet indigestion you’ll ever experience; and beer. It’s our reward for enduring another hellish summer — a communion of batter and sugar that brings all of Dallas together under the wide embrace of Big Tex. And, as such, the confines of beautiful Fair Park will be filled with live music, crafts, games, rides, livestock shows, tons of family activities and all the food you can eat daily through October 23. Admission at the gate is $16 for adults, $12 for seniors and children under 48 inches and free for children under the age of 2.
