Leave it to musical theater to somehow make a story about widows struggling to find companionship saccharine and upbeat. The Artisan Center Theater performs the Broadway classic Hello Dolly, the tale of widowed matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi and her attempts to ensnare her resistant client, the widowed half-millionaire Mr. Vandergelder. The performance is riddled with some of musical theater’s most recognizable numbers, including the eponymous “Hello, Dolly,” “It Takes A Woman” and “Put On Your Sunday Clothes.” The frequent revival of the live show is a testament to this well-aged musical comedy. Well-aged if you aren’t looking at the feathery hats, that is. Hello Dolly runs through September 3 at the Artisan Center Theater, 418 E. Pipeline Road. Tickets are $16. Call 817-284-1200 or visit. artisanct.com for tickets and showtimes.
Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays-Saturdays. Starts: Aug. 5. Continues through Sept. 3, 2011
