Seattle artist J. Gordon was definitely on the right track when he agreed to exhibit his latest collection, Old Crow, in a bar. With a name like that, where else would you have it? Unfortunately the bar/gallery at the Magnolia Theatre in the West Village, 3699 McKinney Ave., is more “martini bar” than “whiskey bar”—but hey, it’ll do. After all, you don’t really need a whiskey buzz to appreciate Gordon’s lovely monochromatic pieces, which employ acrylics, bronze fixtures and beeswax (Apparently Hobby Lobby was out of gypsy tears and wizard hair—go figure.) to create simple light and shadow renderings of things such as spiders and flagpoles. Old Crow hangs during theater hours through December 19. Call 214-764-9106 for more info.
