Road-trip season might be over, but at Crow Collection there are journeys taking place through the winter. They might even be more inspiring than the traditional trip in the family minivan. The Crow Collection’s Fabled Journeys in Asian Art: South and Southeast Asia exhibition features art of varying mediums, from paintings and sculpture to fans and furniture, but all representing a common theme: the journey. Subjects range from the pastoral to the mythical in this multicultural exhibition, with depictions of innocent children, passionate lovers, pious pilgrims and powerful deities and avatars from Southern Asia. The journeys depicted run the gambit from real to spiritual, often serving as allegories for enlightenment. Dramatic and detailed scenery comes to life in coral, jade and other precious materials. It’s certainly more dramatic than the a drive through West Texas anyway. The Fabled Journeys in Asian Art: South and Southeast Asia exhibition is free and runs through January 8, 2012 at The Crow Collection of Asian Art, 2010 Flora St. Call 214-979-6430 or visit crowcollection.org.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: July 16. Continues through Jan. 22, 2011
