Unlike the goddess Athena, mortal women didn’t spring forth into the world wearing a helmet. But we did “spring forth” armed with similar potential to do great things. The 2006 Athena Award, given at this year’s Women’s Business Conference, honors Wendy Lopez (owner of engineering design and environmental planning firms) and other women who, like Athena, are forces to be reckoned with. The keynote speaker, Oscar-winning actress Geena Davis, is also a MENSA member and a skilled archery markswoman. Athena would be proud. The Women’s Business Conference is Thursday at the Adam’s Mark Hotel, 400 N. Olive St. Admission is $120 to $150. For more information on the daylong conference, call 214-746-6787 or e-mail womenbiz@dallaschamber.org.
