On her first North American tour in more than three years, Mariah Carey promises a surprise-filled show that will “take fans on a summertime ride” and “be the must-see tour event of the year.” One of the surprises is that the 90-minute concert is about half Mariah and half filler—costume changes, guest performers and DJ breaks, mostly. But don’t think you won’t see a lot of Mariah—in fact, her current touring wardrobe suggests there isn’t much you aren’t seeing. (For some reason, when Mariah Carey prances around in underwear and high heels it’s totally fine, but when my Uncle Hap does it, the neighbors call the authorities.) What Mariah doesn’t cover in clothes, she is sure to disguise under several layers of liquid bronzer. According to Life Style Extra (lse.co.uk), Mimi “has hired a personal tanning assistant, Jenny Phillips, to spay [sic] her before going on stage.” I know they meant “spray,” but I can’t help but wish there was no typo there. Mariah Carey performs at 8 p.m. Saturday at the American Airlines Center, 2500 Victory Ave. Tickets range from overpriced ($59.50) to ridiculous ($129.50), not including parking ($10 to $25).
