In Sweden, Lucia Day is celebrated to honor the promise of the sun’s return after winter. Although the sun doesn’t disappear for too long here in North Texas, we like the idea of celebrating the lightness to come, especially as we close out another year. The North Texas Chapter of the Swedish Women’s Educational Association brings Lucia Day local, with traditional Swedish carols, costumes and candlelight, as well as an appearance by Lucia and later, Jultomte (Santa). The 2006 Lucia Day events, which also include a Yule Bazaar, are from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at King of Glory Lutheran Church, 6411 LBJ Freeway. Admission is $1. Sat., Dec. 16, 12-4 p.m.
