If you had to do a thesis for graduation, you probably spent months and months on minutiae — manipulating data, shedding tears and mining sources only to complete a document that nobody has looked at since it was filed in your graduation paperwork. Does anyone ever do a graduate thesis that means something? Anyone? The answer to that is a joyful, happy chorus of “yes,” sung by the legion of Broadway stars who have spent time in a production of Godspell. It’s one of the most enduring shows to ever grace the stage … and it was the thesis project from writer John-Michael Tebelak, who first presented it at Carnegie Mellon University in 1970. Of course, from there it went Off Broadway and then exploded onto the Great White Way with its exuberant pop-music take on Biblical parables. And for a thesis, it’s held up pretty well — it’s a fun, catchy and bright performance even 40-something years later. Catch this unlikeliest of academic achievements during its Dallas stop from Tuesday until Sunday, March 2, at the Winspear Opera House, 2403 Flora St. Tickets are $30 to $120 and may be purchased online at attpac.org/on-sale/2014/godspell.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, 2 p.m.; Sundays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Feb. 18. Continues through March 3, 2014
