When Augustus Gloop was fatefully inhaled into the bowels of Willy Wonka’s factory, kids around the world learned their favorite decadent sweet had a dark side, and not just the semisweet variety. This month, Garland Civic Theatre invites you to further explore the pernicious confection via their performance of Death by Chocolate, a play by Paul Freed, directed by Kyle McClaran. Set in a health resort whose members are dropping like sugar-addled flies, the play is a whimsical whodunit, replete with a mystery-writer amateur sleuth and a cast of wacky suspects sure to surfeit your craving for absurd comedy. Performances tonight and Thursday, January 26, and Fridays through Sundays until February 11. Tickets for tonight’s show are $17 and $22 for the remainder of the run. You can purchase tickets at 972-205-2790 or visit garlandcivictheatre.org for more details.
Thursdays, 7:30 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2:30 p.m.; Sat., Feb. 11, 2:30 & 6 p.m. Starts: Jan. 19. Continues through Feb. 11, 2012
