Ballet has a bum rap. It evokes cute little girls with chubby cheeks running around in pink leotards. At worst, it brings back memories of suffering through stodgy performances of Sleeping Beauty with a grandma determined to get her grandkids some culture. The Aspen Santa Fe Ballet will crush those preconceived notions. The company performs edgy, contemporary dance with an emphasis on exploring the limits of movement. Don’t come to this show expecting tutus and Tchaikovsky. The ballet is a bit Footloose and a bit Cirque de Soleil, as one might expect from a company that hails from the free-spirited west. The traveling troupe is in Dallas at the Winspear Opera House, 2403 Flora St. The performance begins at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets range from $19 to $65.
