Frank Deford, arguably the best sportswriter in America, once told me that everyone’s fascination with soccer is as if the whole world likes bad movies. I get it. It’s slow, overly dramatic and you can watch for hours without seeing a point. But, it’s also a great way to show your support for another talented local sports team, and a fun excuse to drink a few cold ones with your buds. Come out to cheer on FC Dallas as they take-on the Columbus Crew on Saturday at 8 p.m. And hey, maybe you’ll even start to appreciate what the rest of the world has been fawning over for years. But if not, you can always go home and watch a couple of your favorite movies–Battlefield Earth and Striptease, aren’t they? There’s also a patriotic fireworks display after the game.
