For kids, spring break is a time of possibility: a week respite from the drudgery of homework and bedtime routines. It’s a rallying cry for those whose spirits have been dampened by the cold days of February — a harbinger of fun that doesn’t concern itself with layers of puffy, immovable winter wear. But for parents, it’s a fear-inducing nine-day stretch that causes all manner of creative scrambling, craft hording and schedule chaos. This year, though, there’s a little bit of relief on the horizon, courtesy of the Dallas Arts District, which has single-handedly pulled together an entire day of stimulating activities that don’t drain the bank account or parental life force. The Dallas Arts District Spring Break Kickoff closes the streets and throws down an epic block party with art activities, musical performances, family yoga, guided tours and more. Food trucks will be on hand to feed hungry bellies ping-ponging between the Crow Collection of Asian Art, the Dallas Museum of Art, Nasher Sculpture Center, Klyde Warren Park and the AT&T Performing Arts Center. Set the tone for a colorful and creative Spring Break from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday at Harwood and Flora Streets. Admission is free; visit thedallasartsdistrict.org.
Sat., March 7, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., 2015
