It’s a hot-point subject, salvation. Who gets it, how they get it, when, why. In a state where we wouldn’t have been shocked to see our governor #humblebrag tweet his capital punishment stats while campaigning, it’s an especially heated topic, and it’s not just an adult concept. In Jonathon Norton’s My Tidy List of Terrors, when Ishmael learns in church that at age 12 one is suddenly accountable for all their sins and doesn’t automatically get to go to heaven should the unthinkable occur, salvation naturally becomes his biggest priority. With a serial killer after African-American kids (and his cousin one of the victims) in 1980s Atlanta, Ishmael’s more desperate than ever to find the big S. But his mom — Well, mothers and sons — that’s another age-old conflict. The award-winning Norton weaves philosophical, emotional and cultural details into My Tidy List of Terrors and director Cora Cardona brings it all to life on stage 7:30 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays at the South Dallas Cultural Center, 3400 S. Fitzhugh Ave. Tickets are $15 at the door, $10 for students and seniors. Call 214-939-2787 or visit dallasculture.org/sdculturalcenter.
Thursdays-Sundays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Jan. 19. Continues through Jan. 29, 2012
