Considering that last year’s fundraising affair at the Goss-Michael Foundation benefiting MTV’s Staying Alive Foundation banked more than $700,000 toward empowering young people against the “stigma, spread and threat of HIV and AIDS,” it’s reasonable to expect progeny as elegant as its philanthropic predecessor. This year’s event, Re:Define, features a public exhibition curated by the Future Tense running Thursday through September 21 with artist talks, gallery tours and a major public art project installation by emerging British artist Lee Baker. The first 20 artists have been announced, with 10 still under wraps. For bios and to learn more about the work, visit mtvredefine.com. On September 22, Re:Define culminates in a VIP Gala Auction with luxury packages including a VIP package to a Stella McCartney launch in New York and a private concert orchestrated by Jaap Van Zweden — you know, no big deal. The exhibition is free of charge, and gala tickets begin at $350. Purchase them online at redefine2012.eventbrite.com.
