No, Post Pop Punks at Cohn Drennan Contemporary isn’t a DIY concert in the Design District. Instead, the show is a group exhibition revolving around the passing of time and the movement of ideas between artists. While some of the nine artists in the exhibition are relatively new acquaintances, others have worked with each other for more than 20 years. And, yeah, the artists’ works in Post Pop Punks include plenty of pop art and pop culture nods, references and appropriations. The exhibition includes many interesting creations such as Cande Aguilar’s colorful, mixed media collage “Dirty South” and Christopher Olivier’s 12-by-24 inch panel of circuit boards “Chopper Site.” A pop artist and photographer, Olivier’s alter ego, Bexar, creates hardware-heavy works using old electronics and circuit boards. The exhibition runs through December 23 at the Cohn Drennan Contemporary, 1107 Dragon St. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Call 214-708-8051 or visit cohndrennancontemporary.com for details.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: Nov. 22. Continues through Dec. 23, 2011
