Mark Floods loves him. He loves him so much he curated his work into a group show in New York called, Mark Flood Resents. If that’s not reason enough to get yourself to RE Gallery on Saturday for the opening of Alika Herreshoff’s first solo show in Dallas, then I don’t know what is. Well, maybe the title will entice you: The Imp of the Perverse. Inspired by an Edgar Allen Poe story and a Rene Magritte painting by the same name, Herreshoff’s exhibition takes their dark, dangerous concepts and put his own shiny, sparkly twist on them. His paintings are the abstract pictorial equivalent of sexy jokes, naughty impulses and nonsensical humor. Or maybe the artist’s own words will confirm your attendance: “these paintings teeter on the edge of figuration and abstraction [with] signifiers that fail to signify and sound-off like farts and belches … that cause inexplicable laughter.” The opening receptions is 7-9 p.m. Saturday at RE Gallery 1717 Gould St., The exhibition runs until September 6.
