Once upon a time, we were all architects. Our first toys, blocks, opened up a world of design to us, with all of their shapes, colors and potential. We learned early on that a giant entryway is where it’s at, and that stylish red cylinders will not balance well on pointy rooftops (at least not without a lot of special tools and rigging). The Dallas Center for Architecture (1909 Woodall Rodgers Freeway, Suite 100) is honoring the architect in all of us with a look back at some of the most beloved blocks, doll houses and other construction toys in the exhibition Building Toys and Toy Buildings: Architecture Through A Child’s Eyes. In addition to the show, there’s a special construction zone for some hands-on action for those of us who have yet to design our final masterpiece. The exhibition is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays with special weekend, extended and holiday hours, through January 4. Call 214-742-3242 or visit dallascfa.com.
