Every year around Christmas, my mother would dust off a VHS tape of that Rudolph TV special. It’s one of those television relics that still seems to hold up. Rudolph is adorable; I was legitimately scared of the Abonimable Snowman; and it had the lovely songs of Burl Ives. In my glittery memories would skip around the house singing “Silver and Gold” and sprinkling tinsel everywhere. Then you grow up and realize that there actually adults who can afford real gold. I’m not one of those adults, but I can appreciate a free trip to see the Peruvian Gold exhibition at the Irving Art Center (3333 N. MacArthur Blvd) during their annual Holiday Open House this weekend. The National Geographic exhibition is supposed to be pretty darn shiny. Stop by at noon Saturday.
