Martin Luther King Jr., Harriet Tubman, Jackie Robinson, Rosa Parks and Barack Obama–any of these names ring a bell? Well, they should, since they’re some of the most important figures in our nation’s history–especially black history. Such figures and the milestones they’re associated with have more than earned an entire month of remembrance, coming together and, most important, celebration. The University of North Texas will take the month of February to dedicate music, dances, lectures and banquets in celebration of Black History Month, including a lecture by Dr. Leslie Harris, professor of history and African-American Studies at Emory University. “Hurricane Season: Life in 20th-Century New Orleans” takes place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lyceum, located inside the University Union, 1155 Union Circle, Denton.
