March 17 may be St. Patrick’s Day, but anyone who’s been out of her house in March knows the month is largely — if not stereotypically — dedicated to celebrating all that is green, served with soda bread or speaks with a brogue. But instead of stopping the fun at pint glasses and a giant parade, you could take in a bit of true Irish culture. Like, actual Irish art. Alan Barnes Fine Art hosts its Fourth Annual Irish Art Exhibition, this year featuring the works of Irish painter David Gordon Hughes. The Belfast artist’s work on display showcases much of the lush, pastoral beauty that comes to mind when thinking of rural, seaside Ireland, but he also offers some vivid still-life paintings that are vivacious despite their soft strokes.
