When you think of filmmaking, New York and Los Angeles spring immediately to mind, but for the eighth year in a row, the Dallas Producer’s Association will show audiences that Texas can hold its own compared to those production heavyweights. It Came from Dallas — Behind the 8 Ball brings together a host of filmmakers and celebrities to honor memorable flicks from the Lone Star state, including True Stories, Urban Cowboy, 1918, and Office Space. Clips from these and other films will be screened at the Studio Movie Grill’s Royal Lane location (11170 N. Central Expressway), with film historian Gordon K. Smith on hand to discuss lesser-known titles. As part of Thursday evening’s events, Texas filmmakers Cynthia Mondell-Salzman and Allen Mondell will be awarded the DPA’s Pioneer Award, and raffle prizes will also be available to win. The event is free and starts at 7:30 p.m., but a $10 donation is recommended to help support the Texas Motion Picture Alliance (TXMPA). Visit itcamefromdallas.com.
