When I was a kid, nothing sparked the flames of fantasy and adventure like a treehouse, a playhouse or a makeshift fort. I didn’t care whether the fort was built around the trunk of a tree, a quilt strung up across a few dining room chairs or the cardboard box from a newly purchased refrigerator. Few things offer a child a sense of freedom, safety and escape more than a playhouse. What a fitting symbol then that to raise funds for Dallas CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates) local designers and builders design, construct and raffle off playhouses for the Orix Parade of Playhouses. Dallas CASA is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to find safe, permanent homes for abused and neglected kids already in protective care. Last year, the event raised $150,000. The playhouses will be on display at NorthPark Center, 8687 N. Central Expressway, between Dillard’s and NorthCourt through Sunday, August 17. The cost is $5 per raffle ticket or 5 tickets for $20, and the drawing will be held at 4 p.m. on August 17. For more information call 214-363-7441 or visit northparkcenter.com.
