Spend an evening with a cranky old war vet, a boozy redneck and a jalapeno… on a stick! Don’t worry, it’s not a nightmare dinner party, but there’ll be no shortage of entertaining personalities when Dallas native Jeff Dunham comes to town this weekend. The popular stand-up comedian and ventriloquist has been named America’s favorite comic by Slate Magazine and just released a memoir titled All By My Selves: Walter, Peanut, Achmed, and Me. In his nationwide Identity Crisis tour, Dunham’s adding a new puppet, Diane, to his cast of comical characters. Leave the kiddos at home, folks, because Dunham’s loud-mouthed puppets are no Muppets. Not familiar with Dunham’s zany characters? There’s Achmed, the unsuccessful suicide bomber with the trademark retort “Silence! I kill you!” and Bubba J, the NASCAR enthusiast who sports a beer belly. Peanut–a furry purple creature with spastic energy–plays nemesis to Jose Jalapeno, a pepper on a stick. Grumpy Walter, a Vietnam vet, rounds out the posse of puppets. They might be dummies, but Dunham’s puppets won’t disappoint. Jeff Dunham performs 5 p.m. Sunday at American Airlines Center. Tickets are $58.85 and available at ticketmaster.com.
