Barry Whistler Gallery announced with sadness yesterday afternoon that visual artist and longtime gallery favorite John Wilcox has passed away. Wilcox lived and worked in the New York arts scene in the late ’80s, and his experiences during the AIDS epidemic there forever informed and impacted his emotional, minimalist work. His 1991 painting, “Third Prayer,” is on permanent view at the Dallas Museum of Art.
