Being in the hospital sucks, but being in the hospital as a kid sucks harder, at least until Musical Angels show up. Founder Dr. Gustavo Tolosa’s network of teachers uplifts and empowers with piano lessons for hospitalized children at centers such as Children’s Medical Center, Our Children’s House at Baylor, Scottish Rite and Medical City. Of course, the Angels need a bit of support as well — for new instruments and teaching materials. Enter the Cupcake Queen. On Saturday, Musical Angels hosts lauded cupcake baker Elena Tolosa (yes, they’re family) for the 3rd Annual Cupcake Gala Fundraiser. Taste five varieties of cupcakes created for Musical Angels, enjoy a performance by MA ambassadors, meet the Cupcake Queen, create get-well cards for local children and enter to win door prizes (including certificates for Whiskey Cake, Kenny’s Italian Kitchen, Japon and others). It’s come and go from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Blue Room at South Side on Lamar, 1409 S. Lamar St. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged. Visit musicalangels.org.
